What to do if I notice ...

  • polluted waste water running from the storm water overflow in the dry period;
  • pollution of surface water from anchored or floating vessels on the surface waters;
  • extensive pollution of the open terrain by foreign materials (e.g. oil substances or chemicals) or outflow of harmful substances from the pipeline or from a vehicle (e.g. car accident);
  • inadequately secured storage of substances that may endanger underground water (e.g. oil substances or loosely stored solids such as salt, etc.) at a freely accessible place.

If possible, secure the evidence (photographs, video or testimony of credible person) and report the situation to locally relevant Municipal Authority with extended power, or to the Police, relevant River-Basin Administrator or corresponding Regional Inspectorate of CEI.

  • obviously polluted surface water (visually or by smell) – such as the occurrence of unnatural colors of water, of large quantities of foam or floating materials on the surface, etc.

Report this matter to the Fire Rescue, or the Police, or relevant River-basin Administrator or corresponding Regional Inspectorate of CEI.

  • waste water discharged  into surface water or open terrain (e.g. tanker or loosely laid tube, etc.)?

Promptly notify the Police of the Czech Republic, as well as the Municipal Authority with extended powers, or relevant River-basin Administrator or Regional Inspectorate of CEI.

  • extensive mortality or abnormal behavior of fishes, or other aquatic fauna?

If possible, secure the evidence (photographs, video or testimony of credible person) and report the situation to locally relevant Municipal Authority with extended power, or to the Police, River-basin Administrator or corresponding Regional Inspectorate of CEI. In the case of fish mortality it is possible to report this occurrence to the local fishing administrator.

  • a foreign taste or smell of water from domestic wells, especially when the findings may be related to activities outside of the given property?

Collect water sample and report the situation to locally relevant Municipal Authority, or corresponding authority of the Public Health Service.

In acute cases it is possible to call a given mobile phone of worker of the corresponding Regional Inspectorate outside of normal working hour, which is intended to address emergency situations (see www.cizp.cz).
