Leading wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has entered into an agreement with China Fujian (Pingtan) Wind Energy Company, a subsidiary of Fujian Investment Group, to install 34 megawatts (MW) of clean wind power in Fujian Province.
Under the terms of the contract, Vestas will supply and commission 17 V80-2.0MW wind turbines for the Pingtan Aoqian Wind Farm project located on Pingtan Island in the eastern part of Fujian Province. The turbines will be delivered on the fourth quarter of 2009. Vestas will also provide a VestasOnline® Business SCADA system and a two-year service and maintenance agreement for the wind farm.
The agreement for the Pingtan Aoqian wind farm is Vestas’ first sales contract with the Fujian Investment Group. Through the partnership, both companies hope to make Fujian as one of the key provinces for the wind energy industry in China.
Vestas is no stranger to the Chinese wind energy market, as it was the first wind turbine company to install turbines in Shandong and Hainan in 1986. Since then, the company has installed wind turbines in 13 provinces and is among the largest accumulated wind turbine suppliers in China. Vestas has also manufactured the V60-860kw wind turbine, which was specifically designed to be fully effective in the low- and medium-wind classes of China.
Vestas is the world’s leading supplier and manufacturer of wind turbines, with a 20% market share and 38,000 wind turbines installed worldwide. Based in Randers, Denmark, the company also has numerous offices and facilities all throughout America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific.
